Daily Bread Food Bank

Daily Bread Food Bank

Daily Bread Food Bank’s mission is to eliminate food insecurity and advocate for solutions to end poverty. Founded in 1983, Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food, and fresh-cooked meals to 118 member agencies and 173 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who’s Hungry report – an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change.

The Centre is supporting the Daily Bread Food Bank and the University of Toronto to conduct a longitudinal research study that follows up on research conducted by the Ottawa Food Bank and the University of Ottawa from 2017-2020 on the impact of different food banking models on food insecurity, fruit and vegetable consumption, and physical and mental health outcomes of food bank clients. This research is required to understand if the trends observed in one city can be extrapolated across other Canadian jurisdictions.
