Prosper Canada is a national charity dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for Canadians living in poverty through program and policy innovation. They work with governments, businesses and community groups to develop and promote financial policies, programs and resources that transform lives and foster the prosperity of all Canadians.
Accessing benefits through the tax system is complicated and many vulnerable people struggle to file their tax returns and claim these benefits. With support from the Centre starting in 2020, Prosper Canada will co-design, develop and pilot a new Benefits Screening Tool Service with food bank partners that helps users to identify and access tax credits and benefits that they may be eligible for but not yet receiving. The project will result in a tested service model that can then be piloted on a broader scale to support user income and food security outcomes.
While this project is on hold due to COVID-19, with support from the Centre, Prosper recently launched the Financial Relief Navigator Tool to support Canadians to access the full range of benefits and financial supports available to them during the pandemic.
