While we have some exciting updates this quarter in our newsletter, it would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the daunting challenge ahead to overcome the impacts of the economic uncertainty we are living in. When we think about the impact of President Trump’s threatened tariffs, we focus a lot on cars, oil and mining – because we trade a lot of those things with Americans. But we need to be thinking about groceries too.

President Trump’s policies will likely increase Canadian food prices through tariffs, changes to food safety rules, or immigration policies that could mean fewer workers available to harvest American crops. This will have an impact on Canadian households and will put a larger strain on the community sector.

The Centre will continue to advocate for a stronger safety net for Canadian households and increased support for the non-profit and community sector to meet our needs in this challenging time.
